Personal Trainers in Stoke and Affordability

By fit2fight | The Blog

Can I Afford a Personal Trainer?

personal trainers in stoke

Stoke on Trent isn't exactly overflowing with money and a lot of people out there might think that they can’t afford a personal trainer, but you can get the extra fitness push you need from a quality personal trainer even on a budget. Basically you can stay well within your budget without compromising the quality of your workouts.

Setting yourself a fitness budget.

personal trainers in stoke

When setting yourself the spending limit for your training you should know exactly how much you can afford to spend on a personal trainer based on your monthly income and spending, this is the obvious first step and it doesn't matter if you have £40 to spare or £400, it’s important to stick to that budget. You can increase the budget you have for your training by making other slight adjustments to your normal lifestyle, for example reduce the amount of drinks you have on a night out, I'm not saying that you shouldn't live a little but reducing the amount spent on anything detrimental to your fitness goals will only go to help your cause, not only will this give you the funds to spend on your fitness goals but will help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle and maybe the money you save this month can be dedicated towards training for the next month.

Let’s say, for example, that your budget can handle £200 towards personal training, (not everybody will be able to afford £200, this is just a figure to use as an example) it’s quite easy to tot up the £££’s by just nipping to the pub for a drink after work, you've realized that you spend around £20 on after work drinks each Friday night, or £100 a month. Now let’s say you decide to cut that spending in half, saving yourself £50 a month. This would allow you to put £250 towards your training budget for the following month, instead of £200, but be careful to make sure that you don’t start spending that extra £50 you have saved until you have it in the bank.

How much can I expect to pay for a Personal Trainer?

A good personal trainer is likely going to be at least £25.00 an hour and upwards.

Getting a friend or someone you know that goes to the same venue to share the cost of the personal training session is an ideal way to cut the cost for you, for your friend and at the same time you will both still get an excellent value for money training session.

Personal training can also be done in groups, such as boot camps, and can start from as little as just £4 a session per person.

personal trainers in stoke

So, finding out what you want from your personal trainer and combining that with what you can afford plus the bonus of bringing a friend into the mix to train with you and it actually turns out that you can afford more personal training sessions than you may have thought.

In any group setting where you see the same trainer every time you go, that personal trainer will get to know you, your eating habits, how hard you train and how far they can push you in each training session and making an appointment with a personal trainer on a weekly, or even 2 weekly basis keeps you on right on track.

Your personal trainer might even be able to offer you a discount if you buy in bulk from them, this might also help you to spend the money where you want to spend it rather than risk slipping into the pub for a drink or two after work again. This will of course reduce what you have to pay for your personal training sessions but don’t shell out your hard earned cash until you are happy that the personal trainer you have chosen or the boot camp you have chosen is the right one for you!

Finding The Right Match

So before shelling out your cash for one or more sessions, do your homework and start by getting information on the trainer, this is something that we at Personal Trainers In Stoke can help you out with. Having experience a professional education and certificates is a sure sign that you are dealing with a trainer who will be able to adapt exercises to your specific needs and any injuries you may have. As well as all the bells and whistle that education brings you may want to look for a trainer with happy clients that have achieved results, this speaks volumes for the personal trainer!

An experienced trainer may cost a little more but that little bit extra may be worth it, especially if you have been prone to injury in the past. Consider buying fewer sessions with that trainer or balancing personal training with group classes.

You should always choose a trainer you click with, but you need someone who’s going to have the experience to push you, vary your routine to keep you interested, and help you to maintain and improve your health.

If you do it right, hiring a really good personal trainer will be less expensive than you might think. Unless you have the budget to hire someone three days a week ask your trainer for a workout that you can do on your own and then meet with them once a week or once every two weeks to monitor progress and switch the training sessions to suit your needs.

With a really simple combination of budgeting a little and fitness exercises, you’ll have the personal trainer and the discipline to accomplish your fitness goals without stretching your budget too far. Can you really put a price on your own fitness?

Modified Strongman Training

By fit2fight | The Blog

Modified Strongman Training

Personal trainers in stoke

As we covered circuit training in a recent article a look at some of the most popular methods of what circuit training brings into its circuits as well as bodyweight exercises and cardiovascular exercises many of them are using something called “Modified StrongmanTraining” this kind of training brings some big compound exercises into the training program and they work very well. If you are doing a form of modified strongman training or MST then you will undoubtedly become stronger, you will gain a considerable amount of power, you will, without a doubt, providing you are following a reasonable nutritional plan drop a massive amount of bodyfat and as a result look fitter, healthier and more athletic.

Modified strongman training takes your more traditional strongman exercises such as tyre flips, dragging and carrying various objects and combines them with the squat, deadlift and bench press to create a challenging but very effective fat loss workout that will give you an increase in strength and lead to a healthier lifestyle. The sessions at Caveman Training and Warrior Fitness for example will always be varied and be mixed in a high volume low rest period style of training that will be focused on fat loss and increasing strength and can target certain body parts very effectively, put all this together and it leads to a higher metabolism for longer and as a result, more calories burnt.

Why Modified Strongman Training?

There are many reasons why you should consider modified strongman training  or MST to be a very effective tool for a whole range of fitness goals. Firstly modified strongman training uses big compound movements that make far greater demands on the body. Many of these movements complement other exercises in the gym. For example the farmers walks carry over to dead lifts and the yoke walks carry over into squats. Not only will these movements get you strong and powerful quickly, they will also push you outside your comfort zone and challenge you both physically and mentally.

Modified strongman training also creates one of the most effective hormonal responses in our bodies for rapid fat loss and not only that, it is a highly effective conditioning tool for the novice all the way through to the top level athletes. It is something all personal trainers should consider trying to fit in with the client depending on the client’s preferences of course.

Bringing strongman training into your training schedule.

Whenever a personal trainer designs a training program for a client one of the first things they will take into account their training age, how long have they been training and what experience do they already have? current physical abilities and level of fitness, maybe if you have a client that is quite fresh to training and exercise you might want to get the client stronger by doing straight sets on the big lifts, which of course are the squat, deadlift and all variations of presses and pulls such as bench press, military press, pull up, chin up and bent over row. Making sure the client has a good grasp of these movements, by doing this you as a personal trainer are giving them the basics to be able to take the next step in their training, something that all clients need, the next level!

personal trainers in stoke

This can be built on by following a natural progression until you hit a plateau, introducing remedial work as needed. Maybe a good way of approaching this would be to add in your simple strongman movements such as sled drags, pulls and pushes until they are competent to handle the more complex lifts and carries such as super yoke and farmers walk. By doing this you as a professional trainer will create a greater metabolic demand for your clients that are newer to exercise if they are unable to move a heavy enough weight during the big compound movements, load up the sleds and prowlers up as required, these are safe and won’t put the client in any danger of injury.

Alternatively, if you have an experienced lifter that is a lot more competent in their abilities and more comfortable with complex lift’s, there are numerous ways to program for fat loss, strength and conditioning or hypertrophy. Some of the training systems used but are not limited to would be light to heavy pyramid sets and giant sets.

So pound for pound or kilo for kilo, what are the best movements?

Without a doubt you can't go past the big three, so the squat, deadlift and bench press should be a massive part of anyone’s training, but once they are mastered that is where the real fun begins! This is where you can really introduce some of that modified strongman training to your clients sessions, testing them even further! I'm sure all the personal trainers out there don't mind testing their clients progress.

The farmers carry, super yoke, log press and the clean and press are where the real mental and physical challenges are as all these lifts allow for variants in training. You can further challenge yourself with timed carry and walks, distance covered with weight, ascending and descending sets or load lifted in a set time.

personal trainers in stoke

The most common mistakes made however are are poor exercise sequencing, too many or different energy systems targeted in one session or a series of exercises inefficiently programmed, this is where your personal trainer comes into their own, they are there to make sure you are targeting the areas you need to in order to be able to, firstly be able to complete your session and secondly to make sure you are on the right track and well on course to reach your goals.

Often too many exercises are selected, length session is too short or too long and over training can be quite common. Overall you must know your purpose for that session which makes it easier to get to your goals and be able to target an area of the body at every session, specific goal setting is a must, not just for modified strongman training but for any kind of training.

As with any training some exercises are more difficult than others, especially if you are halfway into a session or after a set amount of reps, if you are doing a series of exercises, always do the most difficult first and least difficult last. For example you may want to start off with a lift, followed by a carry then a pull or a drag.

So basically, any kind of training that has Modified Strongman Training has an excellent base to work from and has got to be a definite way forward, and for anybody looking to get fitter, stronger, healthier and eventually a much better lifestyle due to this then they have to look no further than Modified Strongman Training. Find out where you can do this and go for it, there are many forms of training but MST is among the best for results.

Gyms and Fitness Clubs

By fit2fight | The Blog

Gyms and Fitness Clubs

personal trainers in stoke

There are many gyms and fitness clubs in the Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme area and they all offer the bonus of a personal trainer, but there is a big difference in these places, some are more geared towards relaxation, providing facilities such as a steam room, Jacuzzi and small indoor pool, while others are solely and purposefully aimed at weight training in all its various forms, while some people may say that they are a member of a gym, this may be a point for argument, where does a gym stop being a gym and start to become a fitness centre or health club? There are after all differences between them.

Fitness Clubs

A fitness club can be used by absolutely any person looking to workout. Fitness clubs and health clubs are a health, recreational, and social facility which is geared towards exercise, sports, and other physical activities with the added bonus of being able to relax in the sauna or pool. Most fitness centres deal with many different types of exercise under the one roof.

There are also fitness centres that are geared towards a specific activity or discipline. For instance, there are Pilates centres, which focus on conditioning the mind and the body with specially designed equipment and a series of exercises to improve mental capacity, control, balance, flexibility, endurance, breathing, and much more, there are aerobic centres, which focus on cardiovascular health with the use of weights, ropes and other specialist equipment and circuit classes. All providing exercises for a healthy body and mind, and gyms, which are considered fitness clubs or centres but for the sake of the article, will be kept as a separate category.

personal trainers in stoke

Fitness centres are usually huge complexes, but it really depends on what activities and amenities they have to offer the member. Some have indoor and outdoor sports facilities as swimming pools, running tracks, rock climbing, sports playing fields, and rooms for martial arts, yoga, Pilates, spinning, weight training and classes for individual use, and regular gym equipment such as treadmills, cross trainers and cycling machines. They may also include saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, tanning beds, showers, locker rooms and some even offer childcare services, snack bars and retail sports stores. Basically they want to make sure you don't have to go anywhere else for your fitness and relaxation needs.

These places are definitely designed to create a comfortable atmosphere, an atmosphere that has more opportunity for meeting new people and socializing.

Gym is just a short name for a gymnasium, and gyms offer a wide range of indoor activities and events, and just like fitness centres, there are many sizes and types, some gyms focus mainly on weight training or lifting, in fact, that was is your basic setup for a pure gym environment. Others are equipped with cardiovascular machines as well and offer classes. Specific activity gyms also include aerobics, martial arts, and Pilates. There are also 24-hour gyms, which if you hadn't guessed, are open 24 hours a day.

personal trainers in stoke

Again just like fitness centres, gyms offer classes in various workout disciplines and sporting activities; provide experienced, certified personal trainers and staff; the use of treadmills, rowing machines, cycling stations, and other cardiovascular equipment, the use of free weights such as barbells, dumbbells, and weight machines, swimming pool, maybe saunas, steam rooms, basketball courts, tanning, locker rooms, showers, and childcare services. For your comfort and ease, the cardio equipment may have televisions or docking stations, some even have internet access on them.

Monthly membership fees at gyms depend on the services and amenities you sign up for, there are on peak and off peak prices available and prices can start as low as £9.99 a month and there are some that offer a month at a reduced rate as a trial, you have to keep an eye out for those offers and take advantage of them when they pop up.

All the fitness centres, health clubs and gyms in Stoke on Trent have the option of the use of a personal trainer, they also have something different for anybody that is looking for variation in their exercise routine, it could be that you may prefer to go to a few circuit classes that the gym holds, or spinning classes, these are great for fitness levels and fat burning so along with the right diet you can achieve all of your fitness goals at absolutely any of these places. The important thing to remember when you are looking to join any of these places is making sure that it offers you what you want for your goals, and the kind of training that you are looking for. Make the right choice and you will rapidly reach your goals of health and fitness, especially with the help of one of the many personal trainers that Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme has to offer along with these venues.

Eddie Hall, Staffordshire Oatcakes and Nutrition

By fit2fight | The Blog

personal trainers in stoke

The Staffordshire Oatcake.

The Staffordshire oatcake is quite a mystery to anyone just outside the Staffordshire area and the heart of the Staffordshire oatcake is sunny Stoke on Trent, where you will find numerous oatcake shops selling breakfast delights wrapped up in the not so famous Staffordshire oatcake.

After doing some research on these local delicacies it seems that the oatcake originated as a result of some of the soldiers of the North Staffordshire Regiment that had been stationed in India, and during the early 1900s they had acquired a liking for chapattis so when the troops finally came home they wanted something like these Indian flatbreads they had become accustomed to, and so they gave their wives and mothers the task of trying to create what had become a firm favorite in their diet, and because they had no chapatti flour, the Staffordshire oatcake was born in all its various recipes, and the way an oatcake is cooked and prepared, is really not too far away from a chapatti.

personal trainers in stoke

I know not too long ago now the Hairy Bikers came to Stoke on Trent and fully indulged themselves in sampling the Staffordshire oatcake, and they appeared to be very impressed, actually attempting to make oatcakes and enjoying them in the same way that we have in Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire for years, you can see right here the recipe that the Hairy Bikers went by to make their own version of the Staffordshire oatcake.

Basically, they are a fine replacement for bread, and can be eaten hot, cold or fried, and can be filled, folded over or rolled, with things such as bacon, cheese, sausages and eggs, any of these items of food used in any combination is very typical of the use of the Staffordshire oatcake here in Stoke on Trent. At this point in the article I’m getting quite hungry.

Here in Stoke on Trent the locals will get through hundreds of oatcakes every day, after all the oatcake is a very popular delicacy in these parts and I’m sure you will all agree with that, but to people from outside the area they may not look as appetizing at first, but once its filled with nice lean bacon and an egg and maybe a bit of cheese, well, I’m sure it would convert most people. But, are they good for you? Do you care if they are good for you or not? Do you just love the oatcake for what people in Stoke on Trent take it for, the almost, if not the perfect breakfast?

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of the nutrition of the Staffordshire Oatcake, Approximate amounts per Oatcake;

Calories 120 Sodium 0 mg
Total Fat 3 g Potassium 0 mg
Saturated 0 g Total Carbs 22 g
Polyunsaturated 1 g Dietary Fiber 2 g
Monounsaturated 1 g Sugars 1 g
Trans 0 g Protein 4 g
Cholesterol 0 mg

They are low in cholesterol, they are high in Manganese (an important mineral used throughout the body) and they are high in Selenium (which has antioxidant properties, vitamin E and helps to regulate the thyroid to help with your immune system. So I suppose the million dollar question is, do Staffordshire oatcakes have a place in a healthy balanced diet? Of course they do, everything in moderation right?

Dan Jervis of INFERNO fitness, a circuit class that is held at Dimensions on Scotia Road, someone that helped me to get my nutrition plan right and taught me to count my macros in my food, says that he can’t see why the Staffordshire oatcake can’t be included into a healthy nutritional plan, and here’s the trick, providing you can keep it within your daily macros a Staffordshire oatcake is fine, now I'm sure Dan would be only too happy to help you out with that, INFERNO fitness is a complete package as far as circuit training goes, or any of the personal trainers out there could help you to squeeze an oatcake or 2 into your daily diet plan.

personal trainers in stoke

I managed to speak to one of the most popular oatcake shops in Newcastle under Lyme, Lynne at Castle Oatcakes very recently became a very proud Nanna, and has owned Castle Oatcakes for the last 27 years so she has plenty of experience in the subject of oatcakes, and has sold more of the Staffordshire oatcake than I have probably had hot dinners. Lynne tells me that the most popular filling for these is bacon and cheese, and that’s from somebody that knows her breakfast fillings.

One of the biggest names to come from Stoke on Trent, the world record holder and king of the deadlift, Britain’s strongest man, Eddie Hall goes to visit Lynne at Castle Oatcakes at least twice a month to tuck into the humble Staffordshire oatcake and they have even created a signature dish for Eddie, which he has every time he goes there, many have attempted this house special but very few have completed it.

personal trainers in stoke

The Eddie Hall Special consists of, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, double portion of cheese and a double portion tomatoes all stacked between 3 delicious, freshly cooked Staffordshire oatcakes made at Castle oatcakes. Apparently Eddie Hall has two of these!

In doing the research for this article I managed to speak to Eddie Hall and asked for his reasons why we should be eating the Staffordshire Oatcake, I should have seen the answer coming, this mountain of a man and he just grinned at me, winked and said, "because they make you into a beast of a god damn man".

personal trainers in stoke
personal trainers in stoke

Now, anyone may be hard pushed to finish that lot, maybe with a bit of brown sauce and a nice cup of hot sweet tea it’s certainly possible, but, do you think that we could put anything on the Staffordshire oatcake to make it a healthier option? Greek yoghurt perhaps? Maybe some blueberries? Of course you could, the Staffordshire oatcake is so versatile and delicious hot or cold that you can put almost anything in them and they would still be amazing but for me? I think I’ll stick to my favorite of bacon, sausage and cheese, the Eddie Hall special, like my deadlifts, I’ll have to build up to.

The Great Outdoors- Train for Free in Stoke

By fit2fight | The Blog

personal trainers in stoke

The great outdoors, after doing a bit of reading it seems that most of us spend around 90% of our time indoors which really is quite shocking. For many people the time they spend outdoors consists of miniature walks from one closed space to another, We live in our homes, we jump into our cars, we drive to more closed spaces and at the end of the day, we come back home. We were never designed to spend the amount of time indoors and hide ourselves away from the natural outdoor world that we actually do, although its great to get home sometimes and just relax, the great outdoors offers so much more than just rainy days, honestly it does!

People who train outdoors experience higher levels of post exercise endorphins, these endorphins are endogenous opioid compounds, this comes from our pituitary gland and hypothalamus during exercise. They are basically natural pain relievers and produce a feeling of well being. The name endorphin comes from the words endogenous and morphine. So what this means to us, is that training outdoors has been and can be associated with higher levels of these feel good chemicals that your body produces.

personal trainers in stoke

Fresh air is refreshing and invigorating and high oxygen levels increase the efficiency of almost all the reactions in your body, from losing weight and body fat, sleeping better at night to reducing anxiety and lowering your resting heart rate, fresh air is a key component.Training in and exposing yourself to the great outdoors can help boost serotonin levels, which helps you to feel calmer, more alert and more capable, you also hopefully have the added bonus that its a nice day, sunlight helps supply the body with Vitamin D which helps the absorption of calcium, provides strength to bones, reduces systemic inflammation and boosts the immune system. unfortunately too many of us fail to get enough sunlight and synthesise enough vitamin D, and looking at how the weather has been this may be a little optimistic but, everyone would like a tan, wouldn't they?

Training in the great outdoors gives you a great deal of flexibility for your training sessions and a good personal trainer will know exactly what to do with the surroundings, and it allows you to perform different exercise routines to that you may find in a gym. Examples might include sprint training, multi directional running, crawling and hill sprints but I'm sure your trainer will come up with some great exercises, that's why we use them and a good personal trainer will know exactly what to do once they see the terrain and what the venue has to offer.

There are many places that we can train for free in Stoke on Trent, that's right, free places to train in Stoke on Trent where you and your personal trainer can meet up and exercise, and all you will pay is the cost of your session to your trainer, you don't have to be a member at a gym to train outside. Why restrict yourself by thinking that you have to go to a gym to get healthier and fitter, and most if not all of these places will require little to no equipment to be taken.

We have plenty of open recreational areas, city parks and other more unlikely places like large stairways in which a good personal trainers can find loads of "interesting" exercises to make sure their client is getting their moneys worth, these parks and recreation grounds are perfect for training in the great outdoors, personal trainers in Stoke and Newcastle under Lyme will know these areas and be able to make full use of them. Below are just a few of these areas, I'm sure you'll recognise most if not all of these.

Central Forest Park.

This is just outside Hanley has a great open space, A large lake, maybe not so much for swimming, this might draw a few frowns and I wouldn't recommend it, but for running around its an idea size. On the far side of the park there is also an area that has some good sized steps and climbing equipment and I'm sure your personal trainer will be able to use the areas very well.

Tunstall Park and Burslem Park

Both these parks have great open areas in which to train including some nice steps and small hills and banks to challenge you in your training and they are very nice places that you can find right in the middle of our hectic city and our hectic lives that take you away from the hustle and bustle for a short time and they really do look quite relaxing, comfortable and nice places to exercise which, should help to make it easier when you are trying to catch your breath during your workout.

Lyme Valley Park in Newcastle under Lyme

Lyme Valley Park just down on the A34 in Newcastle under Lyme is another great area that lets you know that there are places that you can go to unwind in this big city, its also another great area for personal trainers to go with clients and give the client a great workout. It has a massive open area and some great hills and banks on the far side so I'm sure a good personal trainer might want to make full use of these area's.

personal trainers in stoke

Westport Lake

Everybody should know Westport Lake, its one of the most famous landmarks in the Stoke on Trent area, I'm sure everybody will know that it has a great open field right next to the new car parking area and of course the famous lake itself which many people use to run around for exercise anyway, but there is also a canal that runs alongside Westport Lake that is at the top of a bank, this bank is just the right size for some great hill sprints and if its a hot day and your macros will allow it, you could always have a sneaky ice cream from the shop that overlooks the lake, make sure you declare it to your trainer though, they may want to help you work this off next time.

personal trainers in stoke

The "Crem" Steps

These are a massive set of steps that lead up, and down of course, the side of Bradwell Crematorium and many people that I know use these steps for health and fitness, as you can see from the picture these would be quite a challenge for many just walking up them. They have a smaller set of steps that are not as steep that lead around the other side and many that go there will do certain bodyweight exercises at the top and at the bottom, then maybe taking the steps 2 at a time or sprinting up them 1 at a time, quite a challenge for any fitness level.

personal trainers in stoke

There are many more area like these in Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme, I have just been through a few of the more obvious places that we can all use with our personal trainers that are completely free to exercise in, we don't all need to be members of a gym in order to make use of personal trainers and a good personal trainer will make very good use of the surrounding for all these locations. Just because I have highlighted these areas it doesn't mean that they have to be used, just looking at these places will maybe jog the memory to other places that are similar to these. You may prefer to get your beasting or should I say personal training session at any number of different locations within the city that are more than suitable? Wherever you decide to go training, work hard but make it enjoyable and make sure you have fun while your at it!

Circuit Training in Newcastle under Lyme

By fit2fight | The Blog

personal trainers in stoke

OK, firstly, what is Circuit Training?

Circuit training is a fast paced high intensity class that is run by experienced personal trainers where you will do one exercise or one station for generally around the 1 minute mark and move on to the next station. It's a bit like a game of musical chairs that has you feeling the burn after a short space of time. At the start you would go in and choose your starting point, choose whatever station you feel good with, you'll get taken through a warm up, return to your starting point and as soon as the instructor yells TIME, that' your cue to start training, after the minute the personal trainer will yell TIME again and everyone moves to the next station and gets stuck straight into that station for the next minute, I think you can see where this goes for the next 28 minutes.

Some classes alternate an aerobic activity with a muscle strengthening activity like using free weights or bodyweight exercises. Others focus exclusively on muscle toning or aerobic exercise. What circuit training does for you is increases your strength and aerobic fitness and it will burn a lot of calories. Circuit training tends to be intense, but it’s completely adaptable to the individual. As a beginner you will just use less weight and perform simpler moves like smaller box jumps than the more experienced, but everyone will still gets a good workout.

Who is circuit training good for? The answer is simple, anyone looking for a good sweat and to shake out of a training plateau, anybody with a busy schedule that wants to combine a strength and aerobic routine in one intense workout. Basically anyone who wants a really fun and fast paced workout will like circuit training classes, and in all the classes I have seen and been involved in, the personal trainers are a great bunch that want to help you as individuals along your fitness path.

The personal trainers are excellent and are aware of each class members fitness level so they know how far you can be pushed, and even though you're moving quickly from station to station, the instructor still needs to focus on proper technique and form. A word of advise for any beginner is to pay attention to your body and how you feel, many people are surprised by how challenging a good circuit class can be. As I have been close to this kind of training I have been hearing constantly good things about the following circuit training venues so, here they are.

Caveman Training

Adam Pugh is the founder of Caveman Training and it all started in 2001 through the rehabilitation of a life threatening leg injury. Adam and his team of personal trainers that run caveman training are very passionate about helping people achieve their goals of fat loss and muscle building, this message comes across very clearly and, anyone that goes to caveman training will tell you that the support and encouragement you get from the personal trainers is incredible, the atmosphere is excellent for training, its relaxed yet you know you are there to work as hard as you can, its fun and enjoyable.

Adam Pugh says "What is important to me is to give you professional advice and knowledge from my hand picked team to create the fastest results possible", and what else could you ask for? This is exactly why anybody would want to go to this kind of training venue, this style of training mixed with the dedication of the personal trainers will work for clients that are willing to work with the personal trainers. Caveman training is unique to generic fitness systems, each class experience is different from the last therefore you will never get bored doing the same fitness routine.

The half hour workout which is designed to boost your metabolism in a short time period utilising Aerobic and Anaerobic energy systems which is likened to the old school methods of training. The caveman classes are basically modified strong man/woman workouts which push you mentally and physically, leaving you feeling empowered and strong. Classes also incorporate Olympic lifting, gymnastic training, power lifting and functional fitness.

There is so much on offer at Caveman training, they hold 8 and 12 week challenges that are designed to get you working hard at the sessions and thinking about what you are eating to get to your goals very fast, on these challenges you are closely monitored and all your progress is marked down so you know exactly where you are in your particular journey of the challenge, they do Bioprints which give you all your body stats such as body fat %, muscle mass %, weight and much more that keeps you involved and motivated during the challenge.

They have 2 sites at the moment but Adam is always looking to expand this, one in Fenton, which is the HQ, and one in Newcastle under Lyme. The Fenton site being the HQ is very well equipped with plenty of gym equipment ranging from squat racks to leg press machines and single free-weight benches with ample floorspace so they can set up the stations for the classes safely. The Newcastle site is also very well set up with all the equipment needed to make sure every class and personal training session that happens there will make sure you as the client get a full and thorough workout every time and you will have worked as hard as you could have done.

I can personally say that the kind of training on offer at Caveman Training mixed with the great atmosphere you get at the sessions is fantastic and if you are prepared to do the work at home with your nutrition then Caveman training will get you the results you want as a client. But you just have to ask any of the regulars that attend the classes what they think of Caveman Training and they will all give you the same answer, its as it should be, fun and hard work!

Warrior Fitness

Warrior fitness is a recent addition to the choice of circuit training venues in Newcastle, Mat Bailie and Tom Quinn have only been open for a short space of time but are becoming so popular that they have already had to seek out fresh new premises in the centre of Newcastle, purely because they are growing and are gaining a very good reputation for themselves from their own group of "Warriors". They have also had to increase the number of classes they can hold due to the catering for all the people that have seen what Warrior Fitness have to offer. The people that go to Warrior Fitness are coming away from the sessions feeling happy and that they have had a great workout at the same time.

I have done my research for all the venues in this article and have been to see what these guys deliver in their circuit training classes and they have a great mix of weights, bodyweight exercises and cardio exercises in every class, which is exactly what you would expect from a good circuit class. The clients all have smiles on their faces, and when your breathing hard due to a good workout, that's not too easy unless you are in the right environment, and these guys deliver just that! Hard training in a fun and enjoyable way.

Between these two guys Mat and Tom at Warrior Fitness they have bags of experience in fitness and training and are qualified instructors. These two guys are very passionate about bringing new people into the world of health and fitness and helping them to achieve the goals they are looking for. As well as the circuit training classes these guy also offer something different to the community, they organise local mud runs which are held at Bradwell called "Woodland Warrior" and I know quite a few people that entered this event earlier in the year and when we went to it the community spirit was great and everybody there, like the classes that these guys run, were happy and smiling, keen to get on with the challenge ahead, I thought the weather was perfect, drizzle and quite damp, after all they don't call them "mud runs" for nothing. They organise 6k runs and 8k runs and are fun for everybody to have a go at, it doesn't matter if you want to challenge yourself and make a good time in the run, or just have a crack at it for the fun of it these events are great. These guys also have on offer their own version of the 8 week challenge, these challenges are hard work but with the help of Mat and Tom you are helped through the full 8 weeks with masses of encouragement that keeps you going and going.

Mat has done some of the toughest runs in the country including the "born survivor" marathon and has rowed the English channel, Tom has been involved in fitness for years teaching physical education in schools and running his own football club, even doing this over in America for a number of months, all this great experience they bring to Warrior fitness.

4FITT was started only very recently, these guys have only been open for 4 months but in that time they have grown and are gaining a very good reputation for themselves through word of mouth alone.

When I spoke to Callum who has a degree in sports and coaching, he tells me that all the guys there are fully qualified PT's, all at level 3 and level 2 for gym instructor, they all have masses of experience in nutrition and have completed First aid courses and are fully up to date with health and safety. Between the 3 that are there, Callum, Mark and Haydn, they have 9 years experience working as fully qualified PT's and are very passionate about bringing new people into the world of health and fitness and a gym environment.

Anybody that is new to training of any sort can be confident that these guys are going to make sure that you are lifting well within your weight and that you are lifting correctly and safely, they also offer a circuit class for everybody that is just a little different, ill let you find out what that is for yourselves, they have told me and I think its a good twist on the circuit to help personal development.

So as well as circuit training what do they have? They have a nice gym area downstairs and offer PT's at very reasonable rates and at times to suit you, the client. They also have upstairs that has plenty of room for PT's and a good amount of boxing equipment around including bags, focus pads and gloves which, from what I have seen they use with their clients very effectively. These guys too are offering a 6 week challenge, and I have seen the results of the clients that are taking part in this challenge and they are all doing very well, a sign that the guys here are getting the right message across in the right way to their clients.

The bonus with this circuit venue is that it doubles as a gym, therefore it is open from very early in the morning for anyone wanting to use the gym, or to get that early morning beasting to get the day off right for them, until late in the evening, so there is plenty of time to get down there and exercise. They are a good bunch of guys that are very keen about health and fitness and want the client to achieve the goals they want in a short a time possible through hard work both in the sessions and at home with nutrition.

Guerrilla Training

Guerrilla training has been open for 2 years now and Mark, Gary and Andy are all time served and fully qualified personal trainers and gym instructors that can offer a complete package, their circuits are designed to deliver constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity, they also offer personal training sessions at reasonable prices and at any time of the day.

The kind of training on offer here is a mix of aerobic exercise, interval training, body weight exercises and Olympic weight lifting geared towards inspiring people to reach their personal goals whether that be weight loss, toning or increasing muscle mass. Guerrilla describes its strength and conditioning program as "Constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements for all fitness levels designed to change your outlook on exercise." This is exactly what you should be looking for in a good circuit class.

The staff at Guerrilla training are really good guys, friendly and highly qualified staff that will guide you through their constantly varied circuits that include movements such as sprinting, rowing, jumping rope, flipping tyres, weightlifting, carrying heavy objects, and many bodyweight exercises.

There is great experience between these guys totalling around 30 years in the fitness industry and they have been involved in a number of sports that range from golf to football and rugby, all this experience they bring to the classes and sessions to pass on this knowledge and experience to their clients in the form of great classes and great personal training sessions.

As well as the circuits and the personal training sessions these guys offer a sports massage with Andy, one of the personal trainers, they also have a 6 week challenge where they will take body measurements at the start of the 6 weeks and at regular intervals through the 6 weeks giving help and motivation to those wanting to knuckle down and get to those results a lot quicker. This involves a nutrition plan and a minimum of 2 sessions in the circuit classes. They also have on offer for those that don't mind working out in the fresh air, a bootcamp that is held on Wolstanton marsh every Saturday and offer a discount for bulk buying classes.

personal trainers in stoke

All the above circuit training venues are completely different and although they all offer circuit training, they all do this a little differently to the next place, all these venues I can recommend and have included these circuit training venues in Newcastle under Lyme because people are saying good things about them, people are excited about what they are experiencing while they are training at these venues and all their clients are talking about how good these places are, and because they all have a different approach to the same kind of training there is something at any of these venues for everybody after all, not everybody likes the same thing, find what's right for you, and you can find that at any of these venues.

Personal trainers and nutrition

By fit2fight | The Blog

personal trainers in stoke

A personal trainers job is becoming increasingly more complicated and is requiring more from the personal trainer than just to be able to give the client a good workout, or a good beasting as personal trainers so affectionately like to put it. Although this is still a very big part of what the client expects from a training session the bulk of the journey to fitness comes when the session finishes and the client then goes home to repair the body after the session, and it will most definitely need repairing, and the only way you can make sure you are making the most out of how your body repairs itself is by making sure you are eating the right food, and at the right time.

Regular personal trainers are becoming a thing of the past and just taking clients through workouts will more than likely end up losing business through lack of results, more commonly personal trainers are having to give nutritional plans, exercise instruction, and change the clients approach to his or her training sessions in order to transform the lives of clients and build more rewarding lives for all involved. More often than not a personal trainer will not only be coming up with a variety of exercise routines but more importantly a full nutritional program to go with it. Personal trainers use exercise and nutrition combined in order to change the lives of their clients, without one or the other the clients goals are a lot less likely to be reached and probably never will be.

personal trainers in stoke

To all you personal trainers out there, think about the last time a client came to you, what did the client want? Did they want an exercise program alone? Did the client expect results from exercise alone? I'm willing to put my neck on the line here and say the answer would have been a no to both of those questions, just how often would a client come to you and say "I want to do squats, press ups and burpees please", now, this may disturb a few people out there, clients and trainers, but some personal trainers are quite happy to write a program for their client and take them through a few sessions a week, the personal trainers in stoke website is here to make sure the personal trainers on here can be trusted to give their clients 100% of the service possible, this includes full nutrition advice. What nearly all clients want though is a positive change for the better. They want to change their body from whatever condition it may be in now to their version of the body they want. And they're asking for you, the personal trainers to help them do it. This is a huge ask from a person, basically, a client is prepared to spend their hard earned money on a personal trainers time, knowledge and experience to help the client get the results they are looking for so why not give them everything a personal trainer has to offer? This way if the client isn't getting the results they are looking for they only have one person to look at.

With the right tools, knowledge and experience, you can deliver that change for every client that walks through your gym door. So, for the client to get the results they want, you need to manage your clients when they are with you in one to one sessions and help them to manage their lives when they're not with you. Any personal trainer will tell you that exercise alone simply isn't enough to achieve body transformations.

personal trainers in stoke

There is no doubt that exercise is a crucial ingredient on the road to a clients body transformation, but what is your client doing for the rest of the week? Eating and sleeping and this is why an exercise program alone is never going to be enough to be able to see the kind of transformation that a client expects from the sessions they have with their personal trainers, and so knowing how to change the way your client eats is one of the biggest advantages you can have as a professional personal trainer.

People who come to use personal trainers want to look better and feel better about themselves and they want to change their lives and lifestyles, but these people may also have a lot of excuses that are preventing them from being able to make these changes to their lives under their own steam.

Eat well, live well, be well.

How to get the most from a Personal Trainer

By fit2fight | The Blog

personal trainers in stoke

There are so many people that join a gym, or a martial arts club, or maybe go to circuit training classes, boxing clubs or any number of other sports related ways of reaching health and fitness goals that will, without doubt just attend for a few weeks, maybe even a few months, and then will never be seen again due to not being able to reach goals or maybe they cant achieve the weight loss they wanted to, or more likely through boredom because they think that they need to put in hours upon hours on a treadmill. Even joining whatever fitness club with all the best intentions, and then not understanding and realising that help is right next to them in every place of fitness in the way of personal trainers people will just give up on their goals,  their health and their fitness. Personal Trainers are by far the most valuable piece of equipment at any gym or circuit class but getting what you want from a personal trainer has to be a two way thing, you need to take the plunge and get involved.

What you really want from a personal trainer in Stoke is help, the kind of help you need to achieve the results that you had in mind when you joined a gym in the first place, after all you will be paying these people to give your fitness drive a massive boost. The fact that you are deciding that you might want to use a Personal Trainer or not, is a clear indication that you are ready to take the next step and take look into the world of Personal Training and its advantages.

Finding the right Personal Trainer can transform your health and fitness efforts massively, and the real magic happens when you learn how to work with your personal trainer to achieve the goals you want. The main problem of being able to use a Personal Trainer in Stoke or anywhere else is being able to afford them and fitting it in with daily life, but, if this means that you can only use a personal trainer once a week or once every 2 weeks then that's what you do, why not see if a friend wants to join in on the training sessions to split the cost? if you have someone to train with and share nutrition ideas with the road to fitness will be a lot easier, but don't be afraid to go for it yourself. but, what you want most is the best possible from the time you get with your trainer.

The decision to work with a personal trainer should be one you can make with confidence. Having a dedicated Personal Trainer working with you can and will get you valuable knowledge and support for working out the best strategy for you, helping you to overcome your emotional and physical blocks, and get the results you want, so getting the most from your trainer will take honesty and the willingness to accept your current state of fitness, this is after all why we are taking the next step to fitness by hiring a personal trainer.

Making sure you can work well with the right personal trainer isn't easy though, it isn't as simple as just walking into your local gym and booking a session with the first personal trainer who has a spot in his or her schedule. For a starters the two of you are going to be spending a lot of time together, so it's worth putting in some legwork upfront to make sure you find someone with the right skills and does the kind of training you are going to enjoy and get results from. Next, and this is just as important, you need to make sure you as a client are ready to do your part in this to get what you want from the experience.

Whether you're new to exercise or you've been working out on your own for a long time, using a personal trainer can really give you that little bit extra you need to help push you through towards your goals, so you need to show up ready for the experience in mind and body, its no good turning up if you're not ready to work as hard as you can, be clear about creating a two way working relationship that works for you, and your personal trainer, you want as much from the personal trainer as possible so this means being honest and realistic about your current fitness levels and what you hope to achieve through the help of a Personal Trainer in Stoke.

personal trainers in stoke

If you are going to spend your time and money on personal training then you expect to get results right? A lot of that actually depends on you the client. Here are a few things to bear in mind so that you can get the most out your time with your personal trainer.

Not so much of the small talk, although you want to have a laugh and enjoy a few comments sent back and forth, and this is great and can build relationships as well as understanding and keeping things lively, a constant stream of small talk can have a negative effect, particularly when it leads to you both being distracted, you are paying for the time with the personal trainer so why not get the most out of it?

Show up on time or even a little early and do a quick warm up. Every minute you're late eats away at the time you get with your trainer.

personal trainers in stoke

Respect the stopwatch, there's a reason your trainer is specifying 30 or 60 second breaks between sets and asking you to hold the intensity of cardio intervals for specific lengths of time. Clean up your eating, this is by far the hardest part of your road to health and fitness and no amount of working out can hide the fact that your diet is slack, follow your Personal trainers nutritional advice, make the switch to more whole, natural foods, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes.

Trust your trainer, It's fine to ask questions about what you are doing and why you're doing certain exercises, but in the end, you either trust your trainers expertise or you don't. Interrupting and arguing can waste time and undermine the relationship with your trainer, which will lead to frustration for both of you.

Tell your personal trainer how you are feeling, they're not mind readers. Tell them how your body feels, and how your motivation is, so they can work with you based on your feedback, they are there, after all, for your benefit.

Finally, put your heart into it, If you really want to get healthier and fitter, take that attitude to your training sessions and you will achieve your results, it will take time but exactly how long it takes is up to how hard you are willing to work yourself.

Why use a Personal Trainer

By fit2fight | The Blog

Choosing the right Personal Trainer can be as important as who you learn to driver your car with, the client needs to feel confident and relaxed while in a learning environment, and while we all try to get along with everybody, some people are more suited to different types and styles of training. The same goes for Personal Trainers. At some point a large percentage of people will start an exercise program of some kind. In less than 3 months a large percentage of those individuals will stop training for what could be a number of reasons, and its part of a Personal Trainers job to try and make sure these people don't give up. More Interestingly though if a client does have a Personal Trainer then they are more likely to keep up with the routine they have built up with their trainer, this works both ways, the client gets fitter, stronger and happier, and the Personal Trainer earns the money for the work, its a "win, win situation". On average Britons spend £37m a year on wasted gym memberships and slimming classes, see here.

The reasons why people are more likely to use a Personal Trainer may depend on a few things, it may depend on cost, scheduling times and location. Using a Personal Trainer can be a simple thing or it can be quite complicated and unsettling, so making sure the client is confident in the trainers abilities is quite important, but there are some basic points that potential clients and Personal Trainers should know. This might just help potential clients and Personal Trainers in Stoke decide which is best for them and which way is the best way to take the training session for their client.

Personal Trainers in Stoke are people who are dedicated to health and fitness and have had to pass various courses, training and testing to be able to suggest the correct exercise for the clients goals, and in most cases this also means nutritional advise. Exercising in a gym can be very intimidating, there are a lot of machines, there are other gym users and if they are just starting out the client doesn't want to look a fool, and of course lots of ways to injure yourself. The use of a personal trainer to help you along your journey to fitness and, or weight loss will include showing you how to get the most out of the machines, equipment and weights that you use, and be able to do it safely.

Choosing the right program,

Getting on the right exercise program will help you to improve your quality of life and in some cases, extend your life expectancy. Getting on the wrong exercise program or using the wrong "form" is likely to result in injury, and this is just one aspect of where a Personal Trainer really comes in very handy, making sure the client is doing the right training and lifting the weights correctly means less risk of sports related injury. The Personal Trainer will firstly talk to his or her client and get a good idea of what the clients goals are, from here the Personal Trainer can assess what might be best for the client and make suggestions in exercise routines and nutritional plans to suit the client and the training program. This can be vital information for the client and at the same time the PT can learn a lot about the client. The use of a personal trainer is most definitely a two way thing, both the client and the trainer are always learning from each other. After all its not just about how much of a "beasting" any one Personal Trainer can give out but how they are able to work with any particular client that will bring results for all involved.

This is the main thing a client is looking for in personal trainers in Stoke is motivation. Whoever you choose as a personal trainer, this person has to be motivating, not only in encouraging the client or making the training session hard enough for them to benefit but also make it fun, an enjoyable experience, clients are more likely to stick to the program and "come back for more" if they are having fun. It needs to be someone that for whatever reason makes you want to go to the gym, or wherever the client trains and do your best. If the Personal trainer can motivate the client by helping them to change their life outside of the gym, if for example this is through nutrition, then all the better. The client may choose to find someone who has accomplished what they hope to achieve in the future. It may be someone who has achieved a lot in a sport they are interested in or has a proven track record and comes highly recommended. The best type of Personal Trainer is the type of person that encourages you to perform at a level of 110% while still maintaining a relaxed, comfortable and fun environment. This person may be a little more relaxed and quiet, or they might shout and bark at you like a drill sergeant. The clients own preferences and personality will determine what type of Personal Trainer the client is more likely to go for. Motivation is closely associated with guidance and the individual who can properly motivate you, will also show you several ways for you to accomplish any particular task.

Another great quality to look for in a personal trainer relies heavily on that person's ability to run things smoothly. Great personal trainers have an ability to establish a plan and in most cases, give you insight about that plan. They will establish goals and make them obtainable for the client. Good quality trainers will usually have the clients workout clearly imprinted on their mind or written out for you to follow. A poor excuse for a trainer would be someone who is always late or obviously uncertain about what to do next for the client. Successful exercise programs are well organized. Some coaches will plan out track or football season training that could begin up to 6 months ahead of time. Personal trainers have to have short-term and long-term goals and should include your hopes and goals into the health and fitness journey.

Here are a few questions for the Personal Trainer,

Can you carry out and are you certified in CPR?

Do you work with or can you recommend any physicians?

Do you have your Personal Trainer's certificate? If so for what level?

Are you insured?

How long have you been a Personal Trainer?

What personal experience do you have with exercise and sport?

Personal Trainers are invaluable, they have experience, knowledge and dedication to achievement for themselves and for their clients and personal trainers in Stoke are no different, they are there waiting for the potential client so they can start helping them with their health, fitness and well being.

I'd like to give a special thanks to Nathan Russo, keep up the good work.
